Michael King is a luminary in the world of Pilates with over 45 years of experience. Originally a dancer at the London School of Contemporary Dance, he founded Body Control Studios at Pineapple Dance Studios in 1982 and later managed the Pilates studio at the Houston Ballet Company. With training originally with Alan Herdman and with under iconic figures like Carola Trier and Romana Kryzanowska, Michael eventually returned to Europe and founded the Pilates Institute UK. Currently, he runs his own training school, Michael King Pilates (MK Pilates), and his programmes are taught in over 30 countries worldwide.

Session title: How Instructors can develop a more trauma informed practice

Fiona is a Personal Trainer and the founder of theMovement charity, a London based organisation on a mission to break down barriers to exercise for women who have experienced domestic violence, sexual exploitation and homelessness. Fiona has found becoming more trauma informed has been transformational for her personally and in her practice as a fitness professional. As a result, she is now looking to equip other fitness professionals with the knowledge and skills to be more trauma sensitive and aware in their contexts so all fitness spaces can be welcoming and safe for survivors.

Presenter name: Leah Barnett

Session title: Yoga therapy for fatigue conditions (Long Covid, post-viral fatigue, ME/CFS)

Leah has been teaching yoga for almost 20 years after training with the Inner Yoga Trust in 2001. At the time she was working as a human rights and refugee lawyer. After giving up her legal career she trained in the ‘Yoga for the Special Child’ programme in 2009. In 2011 she trained in the Krishnamacharia tradition in the UK and India and qualified as an advanced teacher with the BWY (British Wheel of Yoga). Leah currently teaches yoga classes, privates and retreats specialising in working with people with chronic conditions including fatigue (ME/CFS/LC) cancer, MS, arthritis etc as well as those with anxiety disorders, PTSD and complex trauma. Leah also delivers a weekly class for the Yoga for Life Project, and trains yoga teachers for Yoga Campus.

Jo Everill-Tayor BSc (hons) is a Movement Specialist who has worked in education within health and fitness for over 20 years as well as running a successful Pilates business, women’s business network, and brand (Groovelates.) Jo has written and delivered qualifications and workshops on a wide range of subjects from Pilates and ETM, special populations and therapy through to aqua and kid’s qualifications. She has trained many tutors and assessors as well as working within verification to help maintain professional standards within the industry. ​Jo’s love of movement and enabling others to enjoy it has been the thread throughout her career.

Donna is an Author, Yoga Educator, facilitator, and Wellbeing Coach.  She is also the Founder of Curvesomeyoga.  Donna is passionate about making the yoga and wellbeing spaces more inclusive and diverse so that everybody can experience the transformational benefits of yoga. She has written for and featured countless digital and print publications such as Red Magazine, HuffPost, Yoga Journal, Om Yoga & Lifestyle Magazine, Women’s Health Magazine and Stylist Magazine.  She has also been on BBC Radio London and Channel 4. Her mission is to evolve the image of yoga to make it more accessible and inclusive. Her debut book ‘Teaching Body Positive Yoga’ was published in August 2022.

Since 2014, Sam’s role as an International Presenter, Trainer, and IQA/Assessor with Les Mills and HFE has shaped countless instructors through life-changing certifications and upskills. Her exploration into yoga and meditation led to facilitating Wellness Retreats aboard MSC cruise liners across Europe and at Warner Hotels throughout UK. Sam shares meditative insights through her YouTube channel and as a featured instructor on Insight Timer, enhancing her commitment to holistic well-being.

Session title: Are you truly inclusive? What Inclusive really means

Sam is a highly qualified disability and neurological conditions fitness expert. She has worked with all types of disabilities. Sam is the UKs first disabled fitness presenter, paving the way for a far more inclusive fitness industry where disabled people are seen in the exactly same light as her non disabled peers. Alongside teaching fitness classes & PT’ing, she is a speaker who will speak about all aspects of disability including her own experiences within the medical world with having cerebral palsy. She is an educator and tutors the designing exercise programmes for disabled clients qualification. She is extremely passionate about not only educating the fitness industry on inclusion of disabled clients and the true meaning of what inclusive means but she actively works with disabled people in not only getting them active but keeping them active.

Presenter name: Jane Arlow

Session title: Building Resilience: Pilates Approaches for Osteoporosis

Jane has been teaching Pilates since 2016, at first in clubs and gym chains. In 2019, wishing to deepen her understanding and better support her clients, she undertook her Level 4 Certificate in Instruction Matwork. For her case study, she worked with a client who had recently suffered several spinal fractures due to osteoporosis. Following the completion of the L4 work, she continued to work with this client for a further two years and helped her to progress from 1-2-1 to having confidence to participate in (specialist) group classes again.

Session title: ‘Practices as tools for resilience’ – How simple yoga practices can support young people and their mental health

Helen has been practising yoga for over 30 years, and her experience of the benefits of yoga in her own life has inspired her to share these practices with others over the last two decades. She teaches with a practitioner-centred gentle approach that encourages each person to explore their practice from a place of curiosity and is passionate about making these practices as accessible as possible. Helen is a founder member of the Urban Yogis UK teaching team, which supports young people and communities, working to make Yoga accessible to all by breaking down social, economic, gender, cultural and other barriers. She is also a Somatic Movement Education teacher and has completed the Neuroscience and Restorative Yoga training with Yoga Medicine and the Yoga4Health training to deliver their NHS-accredited 10-week yoga course.

A Keep Fit Association teacher since 1984, she brings Laban Dance Fitness to 100s of people through community classes and specialises in Sit & Stay Fit to older populations. Tonia excels in training and learning, spearheading the  Association’s national training policies. Tonia loves all aspects of whole-body movement. Emma Smallman is based in Birmingham and the founder of drum n bounce & dubstretch fitness. An eleven year old brand with diverse offerings from drum & bass dance fitness to trauma sensitive yoga. Gwyneth Hinds has thirty years experience as a doctor supporting women going through the menopause. Gwyneth started her career as a general practitioner and then worked as a breast surgeon for 14 years in the Belfast City Hospital.  After retiring six years ago, Gwyneth trained as a mat Pilates teacher and specialises in teaching cancer survivors. She has an interest in how lifestyle factors reduce the risk of cancer and chronic disease and in recent years has developed the Menopause Survival Kit to inform and empower women dealing with the menopause.
