What are the different types of CPD that can be recognised?

Informal CPD

Includes learning that is more passive with no interaction with the tutor. For example, watching video tutorials or lectures, listening to podcasts, reading case studies, industry updates and journals, and viewing videos.

Autonomous CPD

Includes autonomous, self-guided learning relating to your professional role. For example, reflective practice, research, reading online and offline articles and reviews, research reviews of publications/industry publications. conference plus participation in networks, communities of practice and special interest groups.

Formal CPD

Includes participating in training events, qualifications, courses (in-person and e-learning), professional courses and knowledge or skill-based workshops, conferences, further education, communities of practice, research, writing articles or papers, and online learning where participation can be evidenced via learning outcomes. Lecturing, shadowing, and networking in a profession-related project, being a representative on a committee, a national assessor, tutor, or internal quality assurer and mentoring.

Does your workforce hold a group training qualification?

  • In order to be eligible for recognition for your CPD, your workforce will need to possess at least one of these qualifications and be considered competent in the area of teaching they will be undertaking:

    • Level 2 Exercise to Music/Group Training

    • Level 2 Bridge Qualification

    • Level 3 Mat Pilates

    • Level 3/200hr Yoga

    • Level 2 Kids Fitness

    • Level 3 Older Adults

    This recognition will not recognise specific qualifications. This can be done by OFQUAL or ActiveIQ YMCA. EMD UK only recognises CPD training courses.

Is your workforce qualified in education and training?

  • To enable your course to be recognised as an EMD UK recognised training course, your workforce will need to be qualified in education and training. The below courses will provide that qualification:

    • Level 3 Award, Level 4 Certificate or Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training

    • Bachelor of Education (BEd)

    • Certificate in Education (Cert Ed)

    • Level 3 or Level 4 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)

    • Level 4 Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS)

    • Level 5 Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS)

    • City & Guilds Further and Adult Education Teaching Certificate

    • Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)

    • SVQ Learning and Development (the units should relate to provision of learning and development)

Is your workforce qualified as assessors?

  • If your course does not contain assessment, you will not need your workforce to be qualified as assessors. However, if it does contain an assessment aspect, your workforce will need to have one of these qualifications.
