Nigel Wallace – Chair

Nigel brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously served as Executive Director of the Fitness Industry Association (now ukactive). He is also currently a Non-Executive Director at BUCS, the governing body for university sport and sits on the professional development board at CIMSPA. Nigel, who also spent eight years as a Director of Lifetime Training, said: “I’m excited to have been appointed as Chair of EMD UK at such a key time for the organisation. I am passionate about EMD UK’s objectives to increase impact and recognition for the hard-working instructors that play such a key role in the growth of our sector.”

Mark Brighton

Mark is an award-winning business and technology innovator with over 16 years’ experience in data-driven incentives and loyalty. As the original CTO for the company behind the Nectar loyalty programme, he was recognised by Computing Magazine as ‘IT Manager of the Year’. He subsequently helped start three other companies including one working in concert with the NHS to encourage healthier lifestyles. He has consulted internationally on customer loyalty in sectors including retail, health, entertainment, hospitality and sport and has also appeared in various conferences as a speaker or panellist. Today, Mark is most active in the UK startup community, where he works as an investor, mentor and NED to tech startups, high-growth SME’s and incubators. He has even authored a how-to book on tech startups based on his experiences of two decades in this field. Mark enjoys a wide variety of activities including running, martial arts and gym-based workouts. He has completed nine marathons and one ultra-marathon, is a 3rd Dan Karate black-belt and self-defence instructor and a keen participant in his local CrossFit club. He is proud to have recently learnt how to swim butterfly for the very first time.

Lynette Eaborn

Lynette has extensive experience of the leisure market and specifically in health clubs, spas, hotels, sports and leisure centres in the private and public sectors. Lynette specialises in the development of leisure business opportunities through market research, brand development, demographic analysis, facility development, member acquisition, retention strategies and benchmarking. Lynette is a keen walker, class participant, rower and cyclist.

Richard Lamb

Richard brings a decade of experience in commercial sport, having worked at Manchester United and Inter Milan in sponsorship sales and business development prior to joining the EMD UK board as non-executive director in 2018. Richard returned to the UK in 2017 after 15 years in Asia, working in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Taiwan after completing a degree in Chinese Studies 2002. Richard is a keen runner in his spare time.

Salah Mirza

Salah Mirza is Head of Finance & Administration at The Institute of Ismaili Studies and was formerly Head of Finance & IT at Cancer Research Technology. Salah has many years of experience including senior finance and operation positions in the bio-pharmaceutical and the education sector. Salah is a qualified FCCA, has a Diploma in Company Direction, and is an affiliate member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association. In his spare time, Salah enjoys going to the gym and watching sports and theatre productions.

Simon Campbell

Simon started his career in accounting before moving in to business operational and IT roles and is currently Group IT Director at Ricardo plc, responsible for provision of global IT services. An advocate of exercise and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, Simon is a former international hockey player. Simon now runs, especially over the South Downs, to unwind and earn calorie credits for craft beer, coffee and cake. Simon is known to navigate by reference to independent coffee houses and pubs.

Pete Fullard

Pete joins us as a successful business leader, with over twenty years’ experience growing an online learning business, focused on the retail and hospitality industry. Pete is driven by a personal belief in the potential of people and that when people are learning, developing skills, changing behaviour – that’s when they’ll really shine. In his spare time, Pete enjoys yoga, swimming, cycling, skiing down and walking up mountains. His interests include music, food, wine, and overall health and well-being.

Paul Szumilewicz

Paul has spent 13 years working in financial services, firstly with Lloyds Banking Group and currently with HSBC. He has worked across most fields of Retail and Wealth Banking globally, spending time in Hong Kong, Dubai, New York, Lebanon and the UK. Paul is a keen runner, football enthusiast, enjoys racket sports and yoga, loves boot camps and, more recently, Paul ran the Polar Ice Marathon and a Desert Marathon in Jordan.

Jane Dewar

With a career spanning roles such as head office banking financial control division, management with Marks & Spencer, management consultancy, practice management, various company secretarial roles and recent public sector contract roles, Jane has a broad business acumen. She is a qualified Level 3 KFA teacher and also holds a Nutrition and Weight Management qualification. In her spare time, Jane enjoys walking, group exercise and technology.

Barbara Rose

Barbara primarily worked in an editorial capacity for an international News Feature Agency and later, again in an editorial and research capacity, for a political government adviser,  journalist and author who also specialised in international security.  Barbara was Chief Editor of regular restricted access international security reports circulated at the highest level. Qualifying as a Medau teacher in the 1990s, Barbara enjoys exercise, movement and dance, and is the current Chair of Medau.

Julie Evans

Julie is an Independent Board Member. Julie has a background in finance, project management and fundraising having spent her career working in banking, consulting and sports sectors. She currently works for Charity Bank, a bank for good.
