Whether you’re working with adults, children or mixed groups, safeguarding is about recognising when someone may be at risk, knowing what to do, and acting appropriately. Safeguarding means protecting people’s health, wellbeing and rights, and ensuring they are free from harm, abuse and neglect.

EmployAbility Leisure Guides

In partnership with Sport England, CIMSPA and ukactive, Aspire and InstructAbility have created three guides to create more accessible and inclusive training and workplaces for disabled people in the leisure sector.

The evidence-based guidance is based on research with disabled people and those involved in leisure sector training, recruitment, and employment.

Guide A

Guide A for disabled people

Guide A is for disabled people wanting to become qualified fitness professionals; gain other industry-specific fitness and leisure qualifications; and / or gain voluntary or paid employment in the fitness industry.

This guide is also a useful reference for an individual or organisation that advises disabled people about training and employment.

Guide B for training providers and awarding bodies

This Guide B is for organisations that deliver training and/or conducts assessments for fitness
and leisure industry relevant qualifications or an organisation that awards and/or quality
assures fitness and leisure industry relevant qualifications.

This guide focuses on the accessibility and inclusivity of the training for disabled learners.
