Melissa Wright joins EMD UK as a non-executive director
Following the announcement about the changes to our board of directors, we are running a short blog series to introduce all of our new non-executive directors to our EMD UK community.
In this one, we introduce Melissa Wright, the Women’s Rugby Senior Programme Manager at World Rugby, the international federation for rugby union, where she focuses on growing women and girls’ rugby worldwide and delivering global legacy programmes.
Previously, she worked at England Rugby, leading the development of the organisation’s community game strategy.
Melissa brings a wide range of experience to EMD UK, having worked across sports governance, government international relations and national television news.
“As someone who is passionate about the benefits of physical activity and group exercise, I’m delighted to join the board of EMD UK. It’s a really exciting time to be joining as the organisation looks ahead to its next strategic plan and future opportunities to support and advocate for the industry. I look forward to working with the team to continue driving awareness of the substantial benefits group exercise can bring to individuals and society.”
Before moving into sports governance, Melissa worked in international relations and strategy at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. She also spent seven years as an ITV News Television Journalist in the UK and abroad, including as Sports Producer for ITV national news output.
Melissa is passionate about creating inclusive opportunities for all to access the benefits of sport and physical activity.
Please join us in welcoming Melissa to the EMD UK board, and keep an eye out for the other instalments in our series as we introduce more of our new non-executive directors, or read about all the appointments in our press release.
