Meet EMD UK Non-Executive Director and Welfare and Safety Champion, Born Barikor

Following the announcement about the changes to our board of directors, we are running a short blog series to introduce all of our non-executive directors to our EMD UK community.

In this one, we introduce the EMD UK Board Non-Executive Director and Welfare and Safety Champion, Born Barikor.

Born is the CEO and founder of Our Parks, an initiative that provides free group exercise classes in local community parks. Born is passionate about converting inactive people to regular class goers and has an aim of getting one million people fit for free by 2025.

Born has won a number of awards for his community work, including BT Sport Industry Community Programme of the Year in 2017 and a Black British Business Award in 2019.

“I am incredibly proud to be a board member of EMD UK. Group exercise and physical activity are fundamental, and they are the very reason I have been able to grow a community of over 300,000 people taking part in regular fitness. Breaking down the mental and social barriers to exercise allows communities to truly thrive and grow. That is exactly why I champion the work we do at EMD UK—as the national governing body for group exercise, we ensure this vital art form continues to evolve, serving our existing audiences whilst always reaching out to new ones.”
