Marcus Kingwell’s Big Interview with Gym Owner Monthly
Marcus talks about how we can fulfil our remit of increasing participation in group exercise, what sets us apart from our competitors, and how we’re able to put the instructor at the heart of everything we do.
He outlines how, during the coronavirus pandemic, we are working with Sport England and the UK Government to ensure the whole instructor workforce is represented and cared for. He also touches on the biggest challenges faced in our business, including that group exercise is still a widely undervalued activity.
Marcus tells us that the most valuable lesson learned from the fitness industry is that that fitness is not limited to studios and gyms and that there are thousands of instructors teaching community classes who are a key asset in increasing participation and keeping people fit for life.
When asked what’s next for EMD UK, Marcus told Gym Owner that we’re currently reviewing how group exercise can make a wider social impact as we have already run many successful projects to help get communities active. Much of our future lies in educating the public and the industry on the benefits of group exercise and assisting businesses in upskilling their workforce.
