Debra Stuart joins EMD UK as a non-executive director

Following the announcement about the changes to our board of directors, we are running a short blog series to introduce all of our new non-executive directors to our EMD UK community.

In this one, we introduce Debra Stuart, BA (Hons), CDir, FIoD, a highly accomplished business leader with over 30 years’ experience in health and fitness education, awarding organisations and vocational skills.

Debra is a Chartered Director and Fellow of the Institute of Directors and has held CEO, Managing Director and Non-Executive Director positions, leading organisational growth, strategic transformation and commercial success across the education sector.

She has extensive expertise in governance, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, mergers and acquisitions, digital learning and business turnaround. Within her past roles, she has successfully built, scaled and sold education businesses and is passionate about supporting organisations to achieve sustainable growth through strong leadership, innovation and sound governance.

As a Non-Executive Director at EMD UK, Debra brings strategic insight, commercial acumen and a collaborative approach, helping to shape the future of the active leisure and fitness sector.

“What attracted me to the role was the opportunity to help safeguard and enhance the quality of education and professional standards within the sector, while supporting clear and accessible career pathways for current and future instructors. I believe that by investing in high-quality learning and professional development, we enable instructors to make an even greater impact on the health and wellbeing of the wider community. Being able to contribute my experience in education, governance and strategic leadership to support EMD UK’s mission is both a privilege and something I am genuinely passionate about.”
