A guest blog from PABA (Parent and Baby Aquafit)

During these unprecedented times, there is no doubt that we have all missed our local gyms, group exercise classes, swimming lessons, running clubs and so on. It is especially hard when you are isolating at home with young children and finding daily activities to keep them stimulated. For many of us, we look forward to our daily exercise. Once the pandemic of COVID-19 has passed, our Parent and Baby Aquafit (PABA) classes could be just what you will need.

The concept of parents working out with their children in water was born out of spending thousands of hours swimming with parents, listening to their concerns, observing them move in the water and recognising that they were already exercising. A huge benefit of parents working out with their children in the water is the bond it creates, which is important for post-partum mothers as it can help alleviate PND (postnatal depression) for both parents, one of the most commonly cited recommendations for parents experiencing PND is exercise.

Having a child is such a life changing experience, some of us may not feel as confident as we once used to and will look to build our confidence back up. Group exercise classes will not only get you moving, increasing the release of those endorphins but also gets you back out into the world. Water based exercise classes for parents and children are great for mind and body connection and allow you to integrate again with other parents and children after such a long time isolating. Not only will the parent enjoy it, the child will too! Ideal for changing the mindset of parents in a safe and nurturing environment.

Parent and Baby Aquafit (PABA) is a 30-minute aqua-based workout program for parents and children, designed to improve parents’ fitness and to introduce babies and children to the water. The program is a great way to meet like-minded people, creating friendships and to have gentle exercise post-pregnancy. These classes are ideal for existing swim schools looking to expand their programs.
